Caught!

I've been patient and persistent, and I finally caught my brown troutie. Three in fact!

It is thrilling to catch a fish after trying so hard to get everything right - the fly, the cast, the spot, the timing, the rhythm, the subtlety of the fly in the water. Those fish are pretty fickle. I love how a few hours on the River goes by in no time because I am concentrating so much on everything around me and being so observant. It's a good meditative exercise.

Still Trying to Catch that Elusive Brown Troutie...

We had a quiet day fishing on the Pecos River. I had two nibbles and one troutie that followed my fly, but no catches. It was a good day for practicing my casting and discovering new (to us) pools. Surprisingly, we didn't see anyone else fishing on the River today.

We should have every Wednesday off, don't you think?

The One Without the Lettuce

This is my favorite Greek salad, which Andrew refers to as "the one without the lettuce."

Greek Salad
Ingredients
1 pint cherry tomatoes, cut in half
1 large cucumber, peeled and seeded, diced
1 large red bell pepper, diced
1 large green pepper, diced
1/4 cup pitted kalamata olives, cut in half
1/2 small red onion, diced
3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 1/2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
About 2 ounces crumbled feta
Toss all ingredients. Season with salt and pepper. Let sit at room temperature for at least one hour for flavors to meld.

Tired Dog Girls = The Sign of a Good Weekend

It seems like our summer weeks are flying by so fast! Our evenings are filled with trips to the gym because it is just too darn hot to exercise outside followed by late dinners on the back patio watching the sunset and dreaming about the future. Before I know it, it is the weekend all over again. I was extra distracted last week by a trip to the vet for Elsa to have three fox tails removed from her ear. She's a trooper and is doing great, and we all headed to the cabin this weekend. Lola ran and swam in the River and chased rocks like nothing had ever happened to her leg - I was so proud of her. And, here we are again on Monday afternoon. Lola and Elsa didn't even get up when I came home from work today because they are still exhausted from the weekend. C'est bon signe!
