My name is Meghan. I live a wonderful life at pedal speed in the high desert of Northern New Mexico with my charming husband, Andrew, and our dear dog girls, Lola and Elsa. I love my little family!
I grew up in Minnesota, and I think a part of my heart will always live there. After living in New Mexico for almost ten years, I've realized that you can take the girl out of the Midwest but you sure can't take the Midwest out of the girl! Most of my family and dearest friends still live there, which is no surprise. Minneapolis is the kind of place you don't want to leave.
So, what was I thinking then? It started as a two year graduate program, and now almost a decade later, I can't really imagine leaving the desert. It's a learned love, and it gets into your bones and your spirit.
I moved to New Mexico after spending a year as an English teacher in elementary schools in a tiny town in the southern Alps, which isn't as random as it sounds. I arrived in Albuquerque in 2004 for graduate school, and, although I didn't realize it at the time, met my future loves - Andrew and New Mexico.
Andrew and I became fast friends, and he introduced me to the lovely, beautiful, torrid New Mexico. We got married in 2009 at the ranch of friends. It was a dream come true to be surrounded by almost everyone we loved in a place we love.
We live with our two dog girls - Lola and Elsa. And speaking of dog girls, have you met Tiny Cutie #37 yet? She's the kind of dog people want to see in movies, and she's always pushing the limits of cuteness. She has stolen my heart! Lola is my baby blue eye, who changed my life and made us a family. She'll always be Andrew's loyal companion, but she's my girl.
One of our family values is cultivating a life at pedal speed. We try to live deliberately, thoughtfully and slow. We prioritize things that make us happy and healthy. It’s a work in progress, and we have a lot of fun along the way.
I love being outside hiking, rafting, skiing, biking, watching sunsets and exploring. I love being in my kitchen cooking delicious homemade treats, trying new recipes and spontaneously dancing with Andrew. I love being in the middle of nowhere. New Mexico is a good place for that. I love being at home and spending quiet evenings listening to Miles Davis and planning our next adventures.
I've been writing here since 2011. My first post was about gardening and growing our own food. I write a lot about food, outdoor adventures, traveling and our dogs. I recently started taking culinary classes and day dreaming about a life outside of the office. You can see some of my favorite posts here.
I’m a pretty private person, and although it is scary putting myself out there, it has been a wonderful opportunity to join a community of people I admire and respect. Thank you for stopping by!
